Holiday drawings
SO I went down the coast with my lady. Swam and slept and ate and drank. That was all. And some drawing. Some progress too I think. The aim was to firm up on anatomy and develop my brush work. I've been studying Andrew Loomis' classic 'Figure Drawing for all its worth' and a Big Book of 'Gross Anatomy' from Ben my Chiro friend, with real pictures of cadavers! Really starting to gel I think.
This was a straight copy to sort out the muscles and bones of the arm.
Joey from life
The nude male form in motion and a...demon thing doing that hulk move. I like the inking on this!
While I was watching a Ninja film.

The sketch that wouldn't quit
Here's a piece that was meant to be a quick anatomical study that I had to tweak and tweak and then finally turn into a black and white piece. Still need to polish some areas of shadow but it was fun to turn into an illustration. Maybe I'll colour it and call it 'Usually my clothes come off before I get the clap.' Huh? Huh?
So it's abit weird/sexy and I think his arm's too big but fun finding a more and more realist lighting on the body without reference. Got to go from reference for the next step.

Style-ink
Here's an inked version of what I'm aiming at for a new style. It's for a little Ghostbusters draw off for a good cause over at Ozcomics. Here I used different pens along with brush and ink and I reckon it's sitting in a really good place. I finally have been able to translate the line weights I want from my pencils as well as keeping the energy of the sketch.

Style
So recently I've been having a crisis with my drawing style. I have so little charm and dress sense so when I'm not happy with the crap I'm producing I become very disappointed in my fat, stupid fingers, my mediocre wits and pants from a friend's father. Long nights of soul searching, research and scratched out eyes of characters have gone into developing a new approach that makes me feel more satisfied in approaching anatomy and scenery. I'm actually going to pick up books that take me back to some fundamentals. I could claim that my drawing is self taught but I find that claim somewhat arrogant. I've observed many great people and had Life drawing classes and talked to other artists. Anyway, Here's some recent sketches trying to solidify a new style for me. It's getting there, I'm pretty excited about how it's all coming out. Next step to ink a couple and see.
The titling is just fun and to help some compositional skills

Gas Bag progress
My Girlfriend was watching '9' today (or is it 8?) and I was inspired to draw up some horrific rubber gimp version. I reckon he blows gas out his brass orifice's

'Lonely the Monk' or 'Wacky madcap crisis of faith'
Here it is. 4 pages of Epic meta-physical crisis resolved in one page of stupidy all set in a world of high fantasy. Like the ink work though? What do you think of my title options?

Inks
I'm posting this page of finished inks so my next post can be the coloured page which means I won't drag my heels with the colouring so I can post here again... You get me?
This is probably my favourite finished page so far.

Skullkicker entry
Here's something from several months ago I'd almost forgotten about. It was my entry to the skullkickers competition way back called Tavern tales by Jim Zub who I then got to meet at TCAF this year. Lovely bloke.
I actually don't hate it. It's not bad for what it is.

Some cartoon stuffs
I rediscovered brush and ink work when I was in America. I really love it the most and am trying to hone my style whenever I get time. Here's a couple of little ones I coloured. Have to hone that too.

Gathering of Gods illustration
Here's the finished piece for an independent games company. It took a long time getting there with a few misteps but with some feedback and guidance from a trusted colleague I managed to get it someplace interesting.
